Crystal City Studio Status

Progress on our Crystal City Takes Flight plane project is taking on an unexpected side benefit. Through our association with the project, aimed at showcasing Crystal City as a true Gateway City for residents, businesses, and travelers, we find we’re making interesting and enjoyable liaisons with the other artists and we’re learning from them, enjoying watching their progress, and looking forward to seeing all the planes completed on time.

The Crystal City Business Improvement District is doing a wonderful job of keeping us all posted on the various artists and sponsors and upcoming events through their blog. Here’s a glimpse of some of our preliminary work on the public art plane project – keep your eyes and ears open for more to come from Crystal City Takes Flight.

Maryland's Takoma Park Public Art Finalists

In Uncategorized on March 3, 2008 at 6:12 pm

Shauna Lee Lange Arts Advisory is thrilled to announce we have been selected as finalists in Maryland’s City of Takoma Park Public Art installation competition. The competition called for proposals which embody the spirit of Takoma’s Park history, their designation as tree city, and their designation as a sanctuary city.

Shauna Lee Lange Arts Advisory submitted a complex, yet insightful project that has not been done in large scale within the metropolitan area over the past five years. We look forward to presenting our charrettes to the Commission in a public meeting on April 1, 2008. We hope to “wow” the residents and administrators of Takoma Park with a meaningful, visually stimulating design unlike any other.

Mixed-Up Mosaics: Our Top Pick from NY ArtExpo

In Uncategorized on March 3, 2008 at 9:40 am

We walked about five miles transversing New York’s ArtExpo and it was easy to determine our top pick for best of show on the very first pass. Without a doubt, the work Mixed-Up Mosaics is doing in translating the ancient art of mosaic in the modern world is exciting, energizing, and just gorgeous. Our pictures don’t do NEAR the justice this work deserves.

What makes Mixed-Up Mosaics so promising, is the combination they’ve derived at matching mosaics, stained glass, and ancient tattoo art through the use of mirror and vibrant glass colors. We’re not the only ones who find their work breathtaking; Mixed-Up Mosaics can be found in the Venetian Hotel, Dubai’s Atlantis, the Las Vegas Wynn Casino, and a few of your favorite celebrity homes.

Located in the heart of New York City, Mixed-Up Mosaics provides custom glass materials design services and they specialize in restaurant, casino, and residential design. They have the ear of the hottest trends and they’re not letting go any time soon! You can create the perfect tile to match your design projects by selecting out of hundreds of beautifully stained glass or sliced volcanic rock colors.

In the commercial markets, they specialize in columns by creating interlocking patterns. Ceramic flooring can be transformed into a masterpiece – the circular foot medallions are just fabulous. Mixed-Up Mosaics can be used for signage, mirror enhancement, and tile work. They can even transform the image of art masterpieces into tables, wall hangings, and glass panels. If you’ve never seen mosaic fades, your eyes will POP at MUM’s hand manufactured work.

In the residential area, kitchens and baths can be designed in contemporary or traditional patterns with amazing backsplashes. The innovation demonstrated by Mixed-Up Mosaics incorporates brushed glass, stripes of varying mosaic size, and standard patterns in wavy adaptations. What makes MUM way cool (or wicked as we used to say in Boston) is their alignment with tattoo arts and micro-mosaic art. You’ve got to see the work for yourself.

Artist Submission Guidelines

In Uncategorized on March 2, 2008 at 6:32 pm

Our doors (and windows) are always open to talented, attitude-free artists desiring to communicate beauty. The information you provide is held in confidence. We thank you for sharing your artwork to our respected and growing art advisory firm. The following outline addresses the requirements for submitting your work to us. Unless you are gifting us your works, please do not submit original art. We do not accept responsibility or liability for unsolicited original works.

1. Please send us a short biography including shows , your artist’s statement, a current resume, and a price list. Your contact information should include your name, full address, phones, and web-based information.

2. We need to know your full vision, so send us at least 10 examples of your work. When selecting your images, send a consistent set that clearly tells your story and that best represents where you are in your art journey. When you send your images, it helps us greatly if you rename them with your last name and the number the image. For example, my first image would be labeled, “Lange – 1″. Emailed submissions should be addressed to shaunaleelange@gmail.com.

3. If you currently have marketing materials (postcards, fliers, letters, business cards, etc.), we would love to see them. Please mail your materials to: Shauna Lee Lange Arts Advisory, 2710 Williamsburg Street, 402, Alexandria, VA 22314. Please only send materials we can keep in our circulation files.

4. Often, we need to physically gain access to your works in a very short time. Think about your day-to-day life and let us know the minimum period of advance notice you need (i.e. 2 days). Also, if you have a studio and can host guests, let us know. Of course, any upcoming exhibitions or projects you’re working on are of great importance, share that with us as well. The more you tell us about YOU, the more we can make working connections.

Artist and Artist's Representative/Agent: Your Dream Team

In Uncategorized on March 2, 2008 at 6:09 pm

Many artists are caught in a “Catch-22″ and find the effort necessary to continually line up the next job as draining, to say the least. At worst, it can discourage and dissuade the artist from trying new pursuits or keeping up with old creative ones.

Shauna Lee Lange Arts Advisory represents its artists, connects them with gallerists, museum officials, contests and submissions, and art organizations to eliminate these challenges. Our philosophy stems on three simple pillars. One, never a commission off the artist’s work. Two, all art has its right place. Three, art does NOT place and sell itself.

We seek respectful collaborations with the artists who sign with our firm. We view our important partnerships as long-term family members. We help our artists with periodic consultations, career decision coaching, business opportunity alignment, portfolio reviews, contract arrangement negotiations and a whole host of other art world skills. More importantly, when we believe in an artist, we nurture them. After all, isn’t more art more to love?

For the art connoisseur, we offer a varied portfolio of tried and true artists from many fields. We can key you in to who’s hot, who’s not, who’s been around the block, and who should be purchasing stock! We can do this because we review an incredible number of artists’ works each and every day. We understand trends, schools, undercurrents, and reliable delivery.

Our artists are unique. Each and every one of them offers something difficult to find elsewhere. Whether you’re establishing a residential collection or you’re a corporate office seeking art acquisition programs, let us show you what exciting works we have in our portfolios!

Certified Collector Development Program

In Uncategorized on March 2, 2008 at 5:41 pm

New York’s ArtExpo offers art seminars as part of its professional education series. This year, we were pleased with the education in the “Collector Development” series taught by Zella Jackson, author of four books and several publications and founder of the International Art Business Symposium. Jackson is widely recognized as a fine art business development consultant with over 19 years experience in increases of 30 – 200% within 6 – 24 months for client organizations.

Shauna Lee Lange Arts Advisory is now able to offer our clients (artists, gallerists, collectors, and patrons) the benefit of this education seminar. Clients will gain additional confidence through our certification in attracting, retaining, and developing a fine art collector base. The certification includes skills in the art of selling art, the art of creating collectors, and tips in gallery management.
