Dear Shauna Lee, Today we announce the 2009 Artists’ Inaugural Ball, on January 20 2009.Art of Change is the premier inaugural celebration of DC’s creative communities, featuring performances by the top DJs, firedancers, and musicians on the East Coast and around the country.

Register now to perform or volunteer, at www.artists-ball.org. (Note from Shauna:  the site is not fully launched today, check back in a week or so) Tickets will be available to purchase online beginning Monday, January 5th.

Occupying three separate venues on the 1000 block of 7th St., N.W., in downtown Washington, D.C., the Art of Change will feature five stages of visual and performing arts, multiple dance floors, fire dancing and live music.

Washington Project for the Arts is pleased to announce it’s new artist-run series, COUP D’ESPACE. Channeling our roots, this program celebrates the WPA’s new location and launches it as a dynamic space for thought provoking, art-minded events. 

Artists and curators are invited to submit proposals for a veritable ‘take-over’ our office space. This call is intentionally vague so that we do not shape or limit the types of submissions we 
receive. 

Examples of what may be considered include but are NOT limited to: 

· Performance · Discussion / Salon · Food Event · Intervention · Small Exhibition (group/individual) · Projection / Video screening · Workshop / Class · Contest or Competition · Outreach / Community event

OPTIONS features the brightest and most talented emerging artists in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia region. Originally developed in 1981 by the WPA board of directors, the first WPA OPTIONS biennial was curated by legendary artist Gene Davis and Washington Review editor Mary Swift. Continuing with this historic and eagerly anticipated exhibition, we are pleased to have Anne Collins Goodyear, Assistant Curator of Prints and Drawings at the National Portrait Gallery as curator for this13th installation of OPTIONS. 

ELIGIBILITY: All artists residing in DC, Maryland, and Virginia are eligible to enter OPTIONS 2009. All original work must be produced within the past 3 years. Artists working in all media will be considered. Artists must not have gallery representation.You do not have to be a WPA member to apply, and there is no submission fee.

The World Bank aims to build better societies through lending funds for civic infrastructure, basic services, housing, and food programs. This is a critical yet utopian agenda that tries to take into account the needs of its constituents. The goal of this exhibition is to see how artists of this greater metropolitan area interpret the idea of an idyll or a utopian environment. These could be personal or social idylls or utopias, ideal worlds, domiciles or languages.

PRIZE: The winner and a guest will be able to attend the 2009 WPA Auction Gala as a WPA Artist for free ($200 value!). The Auction will be held March 7, 2009 at the Katzen Arts Center. The winning artist will also get recognition at the event and on our web site.
