WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Capitol Hill Art League (CHAL), a program of the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW), will open its fourth show of the 2008-09 season, on Saturday, February 14, 2009, 5-7 PM at CHAW, 545 7th Street SE with a reception for the public.  The all media show of original art work continues through March 6th.  The juror for the show is Gwendolyn C. Bragg, a signature member of the National Watercolor Society.  Bragg is an artist and art instructor; she holds a BS in art eduction and MFA in Drawing and Painting from James Madison University.  Her work has been exhibited in numerous international, national, and regional shows.  Admission to the opening is free.

Following the opening at 7 PM, Tommy Parlon Dance Projects will present a rare glimpse of works in progress.  The hour will also feature improvisation and a set of guitar music with Mike Smith.  Parlon’s choreography has been commissioned by Incidents Physical Theater of New York City, NEW ARTiculations in Tucson, Arizona, Lansing Chamber Dance in Michigan, and numerous colleges throughout the United States.  Mike Smith is an accomplished guitarist whose repertoire includes folk, rock, jazz, the unusual and the eclectic.  Admission to the dance hour is $10, payable at the door.

CHAL is a visual arts program of the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) which presents seven juried shows of members’ work annually in all media as well as a special sale of smaller works in December.  CHAL provides artists with opportunities to exhibit and sell their work; supports artists’ growth; provides opportunities for artists to meet other artists and arts professionals, offers venues for artists to interact with the community at-large, showcases and promotes the work of area artists; educates the public about the value of the arts and artists to the Capitol Hill community and beyond.  CHAW is a non-profit multi-disciplinary arts education facility, located on the corner of 7th and G Streets, SE (just two blocks south of Eastern Market).
