To Whom it May Concern:
I have written this letter as a recommendation for Shauna Lee Lange in her capacity as an artist, artist’s agent, art consultant, and art activist. Shauna is a multifaceted personality who possesses abilities she is able to put together in unique ways and use proactively according to her client’s needs.
There are very few artist “agents” in the visual arts arena who are able to act on behalf of an artist in order to promote that artist’s work for gallery, or other, representation, exposure, and/or sales. Most art “coaches” simply inform artists about methods that artists themselves need to take. This kind of information is easy enough to find in dozens of books on the subject already in just about every bookstore. Many such “coaches” fail to take into account that a lot of artists either are unwilling or unable to promote their art themselves.
It is an artist’s lot to make the work., not necessarily to promote or sell it. The idea that artists must also be able to do the business of selling their own work is one unique to our times and contemporary society. It is an assumption that artists are no different than any other kind of business people and should be treated thusly. This idea is prevalent but wrong. There are some artists who can also act as sales-personnel for themselves, but their work invariably suffers for it. Artists are a unique lot and need to be recognized as such. An artist’s responsibility is to make the work, nothing more, nothing less.
Shauna Lee Lange is a woman, and artist herself, who recognizes this fact and has persuasive negotiating abilities that many others lack. She is able to work for artists as a go between agent so that an artists can concentrate on what is most important, which is to say the work itself. I know of no other “agent” who is willing or capable of doing that for visual artists.
I hired Shauna Lee to negotiate for me in the New York art market because of her unique and persuasive abilities. I am certain that she was able to get through in ways that I myself would never have been able to, and I believe that when the currently poor global economy turns back around, her efforts will prove to have been successful for getting my work exposed in the venue it’s supposed to be seen and sold in.
I highly recommend Shauna Lee to anybody; artist, art dealer, interior designer seeking art, or anybody else in need of a professional who knows her business and what’s best for her clients. I have no hesitation in stating that I would, and probably will, hire her again in the near future when the world economic crisis subsides.
