utrecht august installation – the struggle for materials

We’ve been conducting discussions with DC’s Utrecht Art Supply Stores (1250 I Str. NW) about conducting a sketchbook, art journal and visual diary live installation in August, right before art schools open for fall semester.  On the heels of our Artomatic journaling installation “The Struggle to Become an Artist”, we’ve proposed “The Struggle for the Right Materials” for the store’s window front based in part on the inspiration of an outsider art bench seen in Vegas (see image 1 below).

We’ll hang various papers and do live journaling, collaging, and assemblage during the store’s open hours.  We plan to conduct live demonstrations and are finalizing the dates and final concepts. Utrecht window installations have featured fine DC artists such as Tom Block who recently took over the Washington Project for the Arts facility in a one-man show (his painting Dance of the Hasidim is shown below in image 3).
