The oldest professional women’s fine art non-profit organization in the United States is The National Association of Women Artists.  It is a network by which women artists can exhibit works and share ideas.  NAWA fosters awareness of the contribution of women to the history of American Art.  Based in New York City, the organization was founded in 1889, and still promotes women artists of all backgrounds and traditions though historic archives, professional programs, and exhibitions.

Over 800 women currently hold membership and 42 states have representation.  Exhibition opportunities include juried and curated exhibitions in New York City and other venues with awards up to $10,000 annually.  NAWA’s permanent collection is held at the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutger’s University

Candidates for membership are considered twice a year, on March 15th and upcoming on September 15th.  Jurying is done from slides and CD/DVDs of current work representing a consistent body of professional work.  If accepted, candidate members pay annual dues and an initiation fee.  Complete the online membership application and send materials to The National Association of Women Artists, Inc.  Attn:  Membership, 80 Fifth Avenue, Suite 1405, New York, New York 10011.

Works may be submitted as works on canvas, works on paper, printmaking, sculputre, photography, mixed media/collage, video or installation.
