The Geena Davis Institute on Gender Media seeks to improve gender portrayals in children’s media. It works with entertainment creators and companies on the need to increase the number of girls and women in media aimed at children and to reduce stereotyping of both males and females. The Institute’s work is based on the largest research project ever undertaken in children’s entertainment. A 2008 inaugural conference on children and gender in film and television helped the non-profit board crystalize their future direction.
